Zimbabwe is proud to host the first edition of the Great Limpopo Cultural Fair, an event organised by stakeholders within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area community. The event takes place from the 21st -23rd of June 2013 in Chiredzi. The Cultural Fair aims to conserve and develop culture within the framework of the Great Limpopo Cultural Heritage Center, a project being spearheaded by Gaza Trust. The project seeks to promote, develop and conserve the intangible cultural heritage of the Great Limpopo Community for their social, economic and environmental development.
Participants at the Fair include communities from within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area (GLTFCA’s) sphere of influence namely the Shangan, Tsonga, Venda, Ndebele, and Karanga communities found in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique respectively. Government Departments and the private sector from the three GLTFCA partner countries (Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique) will also participate at the Fair.
It is envisaged that the Great Limpopo Cultural Fair will unveil new business opportunities to market cultural products and to attract other key business partnerships in the region through marketing of investment opportunities emanating from the development of Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park
The Fair will serve as a regional platform to address regional problems such as irregular migration, poaching, and extinction of cultural practices, historical questions and cross cutting issues such as HIV/AIDS, international crime, and poverty reduction. It will also be used as a basis to develop education, agriculture and cultural tourism and to promote education of children in the GLTFCA region, especially the girl child and women.
