FISHING NET TANGLES THE BEAK OF A GOLIATH HERON

heronThis picture is a true reflection of how cruel fish poaching is to wildlife. This is the reason why as Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority we have always declared war on poachers. Such irresponsible fishing exposes other wildlife species to danger. Thank you to our stakeholders for alerting us of the danger the bird, Goliath Heron, is under. We are working flat out, together with our stakeholders, to ensure that the bird is freed from the fishing net tangled around its beak.

The bird is resident on the Kuimba Shiri side of Lake Chivero. We have further established that the fish netting has been around the bird for quite some time now. Hopefully the fish netting is only wrapped around its beak and has not been swallowed but in the event it has proper channels will be taken.
