Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority working together with the Republic Police on the 28th of January 2015, five people were arrested for illegal possession and dealing in ivory. The five have since appeared in court and have pleaded guilty.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Public Relations Manager Caroline Washaya-Moyo says the five are Munyaradzi Manhanga aged 26, Freedom Mandundu aged 26, Ignatius Musipa aged 22,Francis Simba Nyandoro aged 28 and Busani Nhlanhla aged 35 all from Victoria Falls.
They appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Rose Mani and prosecutor Takunda Ndovori facing charges of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.
Washaya-Moyo added that the five were found with one full task of ivory weighing 9, 34 kilogrammes valued at US$2 335.00.
